Keep Moving With Holy Purpose

Every journey of faith begins with a single step. For some at Alicia Alliance Church, that step is simply walking through the doors on a Sunday. For others, it is exploring what it means to follow Jesus along the Disciple-Making Journey (DMJ) — to Discover who Christ is, to Mature as a disciple in community, and to Journey outward in mission. Wherever you find yourself today, Scripture assures us of this: you are not walking alone, and your steps matter deeply to God.

We live in a world that often feels random and restless. Plans change, doors close, opportunities appear and disappear. In that swirl, it is easy to wonder: Is there any purpose to the path I am on? The good news of the gospel — the good news we proclaim from the Cross to the Commission — is that God is not distant from your daily walk. In Christ, our Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King, your life is held, guided, and empowered by a loving Father who orders every step for His glory and your good.

This first post in the Keep Moving With Holy Purpose series invites you to see your everyday movement — at home, at work, in church, and in the community — as part of God’s ordered plan. As we walk with Jesus together, He shapes us into #EmpoweredBelievers who help build #TransformedCommunities.

1. God Guides Your Steps

Psalm 37:23 tells us that the Lord orders the steps of those who belong to Him. That word speaks of intention, design, and care. Your life is not a random sequence of events. From the moment you Discover Christ as Savior to the day you stand before Him as Coming King, your path is under the watchful eye of a faithful God. Even when you cannot see the full map, He holds the route. As Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us, we are called to trust in the Lord with all our heart, lean not on our own understanding, and acknowledge Him in all our ways — and He will direct our paths.

God’s guidance is both personal and purposeful. He knows your story, your fears, your gifts, and your calling. He is not only concerned with where you end up, but with who you are becoming along the way. As your Sanctifier, Christ uses each step — the easy ones and the painful ones — to shape your character, deepen your trust, and align your heart with His. This is the heart of discipleship: allowing God to lead your everyday decisions so that your journey reflects His wisdom and grace.

Perhaps you are at a crossroads right now — a decision about work, family, ministry, or calling. Be encouraged: you do not have to figure it out alone. Bring your questions before the Lord in prayer. Open His Word. Seek wise counsel in the church community. As you do, believe that your Good Shepherd is guiding your steps, one decision at a time, into His good and perfect will.

2. Walk in Obedience

If God orders our steps, our part is to walk in obedience. We cannot ask for holy direction while ignoring what He has already spoken. Jesus calls us not simply to agree with His teaching, but to follow Him — to obey His commands, to love as He loves, and to align our daily choices with His kingdom. Obedience is not about earning God’s favor; it is a joyful response to grace, made possible because the Holy Spirit lives in us.

In the DMJ, this obedience shows up as we Mature in Christ. We grow through Scripture, prayer, worship, and community life. We serve in ministries like Empowered to Serve — Where faith becomes action, allowing God to stretch us beyond comfort and into calling. As James writes, we are not to be hearers of the Word only, but doers. When we walk in obedience, our steps begin to trace the path of Jesus — humble, compassionate, courageous, and full of truth.

Obedience is often most powerful in the small, hidden decisions: forgiving someone who hurt you, choosing integrity when no one is watching, saying “yes” to a simple act of service, or taking a step into community instead of walking alone. Each obedient step may feel small, but over time it forms a life that honors God. And as Psalm 37 reminds us, the Lord delights in the way of those who walk this path. Your obedience brings joy to His heart.

3. Trust His Purpose

Even when we believe that God guides our steps and we desire to obey, we still face seasons of confusion, delay, and disappointment. In those moments, we must hold on to the truth that God has a purpose that is bigger and wiser than anything we can see. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that He knows the plans He has for us — plans for peace and not for evil, to give us a future and a hope. That promise does not mean an easy life, but it does mean a meaningful one.

To trust God’s purpose is to believe that He is working in and through every chapter of your story. Christ our Healer meets us in our wounds, disappointments, and failures, and He is able to bring restoration and new beginnings. He can redeem what was broken and use it as part of your testimony to encourage others. As we Journey outward in mission, God often takes the very places we once felt stuck and turns them into platforms of ministry and compassion.

When you cannot trace His hand, you can still trust His heart. Ask Him to open your eyes to how your present season fits into His larger purpose. Perhaps He is deepening your dependence on Him, preparing you for a new assignment, or positioning you to be a blessing in your family, workplace, or community. Remember: your life is part of God’s story of redemption — from the Cross to the Commission.

4. He Holds You Up

One of the most comforting truths in Psalm 37 is that when we fall, we are not cast down, because the Lord upholds us with His hand (Psalm 37:24). Ordered steps do not mean a flawless walk. We stumble. We grow weary. We face resistance and spiritual battles. Yet the promise stands: the Lord Himself holds us up. He sustains us when our strength runs out and steadies us when our feet slip.

Isaiah 40:31 paints this picture powerfully: those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. In Christ, you are not left to walk in your own power. The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, enabling you to say with Paul, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). That strength is for the ordinary days as much as the extraordinary ones.

As a church, we walk together under this promise. When one believer is weak, the rest of the body comes alongside to encourage, pray, and support. In small groups, ministries, and everyday friendships, we remind one another that God’s grip is stronger than our struggle. You are not meant to journey alone; God holds you up, and He often does so through the loving presence of His people.

Walking Forward Together

As you reflect on Psalm 37:23, let this truth settle deeply in your heart: your steps are seen, ordered, and delighted in by the Lord. In Christ — Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King — every season of your journey can be marked by holy purpose. Whether you are just beginning to Discover who Jesus is, seeking to Mature as a disciple, or ready to Journey outward in mission, God is faithfully leading the way.

My prayer for you today is simple: that you would keep moving. Take the next step of obedience, however small it may seem. Trust that God’s purpose is at work in you and through you. Lean on His strength when you feel weary. And know that as you walk, your Heavenly Father delights in every step you take toward Him and with Him.

May the Lord bless your coming in and your going out. May He steady your feet, guard your heart, and fill you with courage to follow wherever He leads. And as we walk this Disciple-Making Journey together at Alicia Alliance Church, may our lives proclaim Christ and point many others to His saving, sanctifying, healing, and soon-coming grace.
